I attempted the maiden flight today (8/20/11), but no joy. First, the fuel tank pressure line popped off of the pressure tap on the muffler just before take-off. The engine lost power and the plane flipped over when the engine powered up again. Nothing broke, but I could not get the pressure line to stay connected. I'll have to make some modifications as to how the pressure line attaches to the tap. The plane actually flipped twice, the first time during a turn while taxiing. While the plane appears top heavy, I think the problem has more to do with the engine thrust-line being high. At one point I thought I had the line attached well enough, but the throttle servo died. I had been concerned about vibration, and that was a cheap servo--not a good idea. I'll mount a better servo with more vibration isolation. A short video of today's attempt is below. |
